So here is my dilemma hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction. My fiance has a 2004 XLT 2wd nothing fancy and its not gonna be used for serious offroading, possibly just on some easy really well cleared trails. The engine and tranny have about 113k on them. I wanna fix it up for her when I get back from Afghanistan, so I won't have to worry about it breaking down on her too much. Can you guys give me some ideas on what would need to be replaced or is a good idea to replace for that mileage, and what i should beef up for her trail driving. Any input (websites or threads) is greatly appreciated guys, thanks in advance.

Probably just check the manual and make sure the service history has been adhered to.
Otherwise, at that mileage with unknown service history I would do a general service along the lines of..

Plugs/Coils
Fluids (diff, transfer case, tranny, coolant, engine oil, brake)
Filters (tranny, fuel, oil, air)
Clean MAF sensor
Check/replace serp belt
Check/replace brake pads\rotors
Check/replace PCV & IAC
Check shocks/axle boots
And maybe timing chain guides.

As its 2wd, not really too sure what you can beef up for trail driving?? Hopefully one of the froaders can help with that.

Thanks for the input on fixing it up. I told her it was a 2wd so wasn't much point in doing alot too it that I would by her a 4wd if she really wanted to and she said no. She just wants to be able to go off in the backwoods behind the house and around the lake without having to worry about messing anything up more then anything.
