I am definately in need of more bass. I am no longer pleased with my single 12". I have a Pioneer IMPP svc powered by a Fosgate 100.2 bridged. I have a 2 way coustic x-over. I was thinking of either going with 2 decent nothing crazy 10's. I have a Planet Audio 200.2 on the way(got it for $50 new). I also have an MTX 120.2. Would I be better off to buy a top of the line single 12'? I plan to get a bigger amp to run the subs. Then demote the Planet Audio to the door speakers. In the doors I have Fosgate 2 ways. I have a pair of Blaupunkt OverDrive 6x9 4 ways I plan to power with the MTX 120 from a seperate compartment of the sub box. I plan on getting seperates for the front doors, and some high quality 6x9's for the rear doors. One more ?. If I wanted 3 10's what would be the best way to wire then to an amp? Could you make it 2 ohms total? Would I want dvc subs? Thanxs in advance since there are so many ?'s:D

If you are not happy with your single 12 then going to a more expensive one is not going to make you much happier. I would go with 2 12 and a nice amp to run them. The size of a dual 12" box is not much bigger than a dual 10".
You are better off picking your subs first then matching a amp to them.
If you go with 3 10" subs it is going to depend if they are 4 or 8 ohm, single or dual voice coil and what your amp is rated for.

I'm leaning towards 2 subs. I plan to get a Planet Audio 400 or 600 for a bass amp. This should be fine for any of the subs I will be considering. The Blau 6x9s are dvc which is making things difficult since I have only 2 channel amps. I also need to get rid of the crappy factory amp. So many upgrades so little time.

if you wanted to go with three 10s like you mentioned in your first post, then you're better off going with a subwoofer with dual 6 ohm voice coils to make wiring easier (for example Audiobahn Alum 10).

From my expirence: I used to have 2 rockford 10 (classic) bottom of the line, with a semi decent 500.1 amp (mtx 4200x) , Im sure if you got a high end 12, with somthing bigger than a 200 watt amp, It would more than enough for your explorer, What i have is way too much, never even enjoy it at full volume, If you have a friend with some nice subs and a nice amp see if he/ she will lt you see what it sounds like in your ride.

2 12" mid price subs will destroy the EX. The open air just gets devastated by big subs. I used to have 2 12" Punch's and I had to set the bass at -2 in my HU. Right now I'm running a 12" Alpine Type R and I think it's a good fit on the road. Probably only need more if you want to overpower everyone else or if you are outside(w/ friends, working, playing b-ball, etc...) and want to listen to the stereo. The fact that you have a 100.2 bridged right now you might just need more power in the amp. The sub can probably isn't even being used to it's potential. It just depends on much you want to spend.

I plan on hooking up the 200.2 Planet Audio as soon as I get it in the mail. I think that may help. I may build the box for my 6x9's today and see how that works. my 6x9's are 4 ohm dvc's. If I wire them in parallel to a 2 channel amp would the amp have a 2 ohm load? I'm not sure if I want to use the MTX 30x2 or the Fosgate 100a2 for the 6x9s. Both are 2 ohm stable.

I hooked up the Blau 6x9s to the MTX 30x2. I mounted them on a near 90 angle on my sub box and
set the high pass to 100 hertz. They are 4 ways so they work very well as midbass/tweeters. They really raised the sound stage. I was really suprised at the power of the little MTX. I had to turn the gains down not to flex the 6x9's. A little better. Whats a good point to crossover point for the doors. I only have Fosgate 2 ways so I was thinking aroung 400? I run my sub 100 or 80 and below. I've heard bass blockers can decrease sound quality.

I got my Planet Audio pl250 today. The sub sounds way better with the Planet Audio. Not just spl but the quality got a lot cleaner. The Planet Audio is a little powerhouse. I've got the gain at 1 volt and the low pass set at around 115hertz. It sounds good and I don't think I should push it any more. Tomorrow I am going to build a new 6x9 box, hook up the Fosgate 100a2 to the Blau sub input and the MtX 300x 2 to the midrange/tweet input.
