Well this is great.

2016 with 100k miles is in the shop as of yesterday for a new transmission. Just our luck right here at Christmas time. 🙄🙄🙄

No extended warranty I'm guessing.

Has the trans fluid ever been changed? You cannot change the filters on these transmissions without removing them and splitting the case, so when they start to plug up it’s game over.

I change my fluid annually, so far at 210,000 km (~ 130,000 miles) it still shifts great.

Yes but that’s besides the point. It’s still yet to be determined weather or not they will cover it it’s a third party warranty we got at the dealer when purchased three years ago.

Good luck then. Many members have posted to avoid those 3rd party warranties but I hope it turns out well for you. If you ever look to get another extended warranty, have a look at this thread first. Ford ESP at dealer cost to forum members

Yes it was changed at 60k miles

We’ve used it before getting a key fob and two tires replaced with zero issues. On those three times all we paid was the tax because it wasn’t a deductible situation.
For the transmission will have a $100 deductible.

I had excellent luck with my 3rd party warranties. I had over $7,000 put into my first Explorer, with zero pushback.

I know nothing about my Kia factory warranty, since the damn thing just keeps running, with absolutely zero issues. 😉

My 2011 has 337000 miles on it. I believed the owners manual and had the transmission serviced at 150000 miles. And I brought it back for another service at 270000 miles. That’s when I found out all they did the first time was a drain and fill (about 4 quarts) so we did another drain and fill but this time sent a sample to a lab
The wear “metals” were high.

Since then I’ve done a drain and fill every 10,000 miles and sent samples to the lab each time. The concentration of the wear metals has been coming down with each sample. And the transmission continues to shift smoothly And the oil now has a reddish tint to it

So after about 300000 miles of neglect I’m now doing right by the transmission and I think it will last forever

Ford's recommended transmission services intervals boarder on criminal negligence. Transmissions should be drained and refilled every 40k-50k miles at a minimum. You did a very good thing by doing the 10k drain and refills. It likely saved you from a transmission failure. I would recommend that you drain and refill the rear differential and do frequent service to the PTU like you did on the transmission if you have an AWD vehicle.

front wheel drive, no PTU or rear differential to worry with

update on my transmission... as I said in my post above after 300000 miles of neglect Ive been doing a drain and fill every 10000 miles. The most recent at 350000 miles. This time the fluid removed is definitely "red" the previous sample had a reddish tint to it that may have been my imagination or just wishful thinking. But this time definitely red. so Im ready to declare victory

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This is the transmission fluid from my latest drain and fill
