need of advice of front bumper and skid plate mount

my wife took my 01 sport to the autobody shop(im on deployment so i cant myself) and they told her that according to my vin # that i have a "special" make. with that being said, the issue is, i want a offroad bumper as well as a skid plate and the guy is saying that its really hard to find a part that would mount up to my truck. would i have to make a custom mount for it all or is it all bs? and i wanted a few suggestions on what would be suitable for it, i dont want anything to much out of the ordinary since it is one of my main source of rides and want to hide the radiator showing and make it look better. ill be driving in fl, and my tags are registered in tx so its not like the cops and base guards will know the law for it lol

Well if you got the skills of or know some one who can work with metal it should not be as difficult at the autobody guy claims. If you search around on here you can find some great pictures of other members who have added their own custom bumper to their ride.

well the thing is, is im trying to get it all done by the time i get home from deployment soooo i guess that limits my options. the autobody guy is friends with my wife's parents so im sure hed go out of his way to make a custom mount for both. also i need to know what do they measure from ground-up for height requirments. ill be living in florida when i get back, so i dont really know the requirments. when i was stationed in maine they didnt really mess to much with me because i had out of state registration, so does the law still apply?

Hmm i cant help you much with the laws in florida. One other option is to look in the parts for sale on the forum. Every now and then some one decides to sell off their custom bumper. Heres a link to a guy that makes and sells bumpers Click me.

Im from Maine but I have also lived in Florida. There laws are few down there. You wont get in trouble. There are trucks on the road down there you could drive under! As long as it doesnt look like a POS they will leave you alone.
Ive seen cars with no tail lights no shocks driving down the road with no problems and as long as they dont take it on the highway the police wont bother them
as far as bumpers and ect. there is no inspection stickers down there. Some towns do have emissions.
