need order for spark plug wires for 99 explorer sport

Help! I am trying to change the spark plug wires on my 99 explorer sport, and forgot to keep track of the order of the old wires.

I purchased a Hanes manual, but the diagram doesn't seem to match my car configuration. The illustration shows the cylinders as follows:

3 4
2 5
1 6

However, the other side of the wires that plug in to the distributor cap shows the numbers in 3 rows of 2. When I am looking at the engine block, the distributor holes are lines up in 2 rows of three. Here is how my distributor cap looks:

(h is a hole)

The diagram shows it lined up in the following manner:

1 4
2 5
3 6

Which engine do you have? I think they're hooked up differently, but I could be wrong.

I just looked at both my Haynes and Chilton books, and can't seem to find anything on it, other than "helpful" hints on how to remove the wires.

I have a v6 SOHC, 4 cylinder.

I made the same mistake and I need to know which plugs to connect to my distributer.

According to the '99 service manual, the coil pack is set up like this:

4 6 5
3 2 1
(connector on this side)

The cylinder arrangement should be...??? I can't seem to find it, so I'm sure the experts will be along shortly, but I *think* it should be

2 5
1 4

If your set up is vertical, it's this:

3 4
2 5
1 6

If its horizontial, just turn the set up above on its side, with 1 being the first connection on the top left.

This contradicts what you said gijoecam, but I got this answer from my Pepboys local "expert," and this was how I completed my installation and I have been running just fine ever since.

That's DEFINITELY not correct...

nmiranda, I just copied what was written in the '99 service manual for him. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just what the manual shows.

For the heck of it, I went out and looked at mine... Mine is set up like this:

(Connector)
1 2 3
5 6 4
front

...which coincides with what the manual shows and I posted above, just flipped over.


The #1 cylinder in a longitudinally mounted Ford is always the front passenger side, counting down that side, then coming to the front driver's side for #4,5, or 6 depending on the total number you have. To my knowledge, all Fords are like that.
