I know that I'll likely get flamed for being a heretic, but we switched from a 97 Explorer to an 03 Trailblazer (Chevy -- there, I said it
) and it is a great vehicle. It has enough oomph to tow my off-road trucks, pulls down 23 on the highway (with K&N and Amsoil) and it has plenty of room, 4x4, etc.
Ours is sitting at around 295 HP. It is fairly snappy out on the road. I'd also never dream of towing like that with our Ford... Unless you have the V8 Explorer, the transmissions just don't take that kind of abuse.
If you want even more fun factor, check out the Trailblazer SS. A few friends are running in the high 12/low 13s at the track. They have about 400 hp. Definately a sleeper-mobile.
