Need Recommendations on COmpact SUV!!! Escape???

Cool, I guess theres hope for the motoring public yet.

F14- Another problem with the Rav4 is the side hinged rear door, much less convenient than a hatch. The CR-V may have one also...

I thought you were all for imports

LOL, no not at all. I'm a car person through and through. For now I may think that foreign carmakers are doing a better job controlling quality than domestic carmakers that has not always been the case and I'm sure one day it won't be again. I don't consider myself a domestic guy or a foreign guy, I'm a car guy.

Aye

If you're looking for fuel economy, there's the Escape Hybrid or the Liberty CDR (diesel) which are both supposed to be very good vehicles. And with the jeep you still get the real 4x4 system.

Well...we went for a 2005 Subaru XT, Premium Package with automatic tranny. The 210 HP Turbo engine is extremely quick, and it is handles unbelievably well. Acceleration is just incredible, and it has a very comfortable, quite ride. In my humble opinion, the Ford Escape can't touch this vehicle. The Escape jusat fely like an underpowered tin can (even with the V6). The Subaru feels and drives like it is built with extremely tight tolerances. Lovin it!

P.S. I still love my 1997 Ford Explorer. However, I would recommend the Forester to anyone looking for a small SUV.

Congratulations

Congratulations on the new car!

I like the styling and larger tires on the Escape, but...... from reading specs, everything else on the Forester is superior, including cargo space. Regarding acceleration, the Subaru with the turbo has a bit more HP than the Escape and I'm sure its a lot lighter in weight, so its gonna go faster. The Escape is almost as heavy as an Explorer, so it will probably benefit from the new 3.5L engine if it becomes available.

The best of both worlds,to me, would be a Forester for the daily drive and the Explorer for the heavy hauling.

You can get cool accessories for the Forester, too, like the gauge cluster with the turbo boost gauge (kinda pricey, so put your own after-market gauges in), a skid plate for the rear diff, and how about putting a prerunner bar on the front with some nice fog lamps? Can you put bigger tires on it, like maybe 225's?

Whoa, I'm getting out of control.... Seriously, it seems like a fine machine and should be a lot of fun to drive. The Forester has good ground clearance and a limited slip diff, too. The ones I've seen here in NJ appear to handle the snow effortlessly. And the air scoop with the turbo...well its worth getting the turbo just for that.

Congrats again, and let us know how it works out.
