I have a 93 explorer and am sheer that it still has the factory shocks. Looking for good shocks for my explorer. That doesn’t cost an arm and a leg and don’t need any special harnesses or brackets. But I am hard on my explorer so it has to handle some abuse. Any input would be wonderful. Ate Napa shocks any good? And what about load adjusting shocks????

Take your pick of brands, Gabriel, Monroe, Rancho, Bilstein...They are all pretty good. Everybody in the product review secton doesn't seem to like Edelbrock. I've never tried them personally. Napa usually contract out to have some aftermarket company make their parts, but I'm not sure who makes Napa shocks. Call them and ask them would be your best bet.

If you don't know what to use the adjustablility for, you don't need it. You'll probably never use it if you don't take your truck off road very much and waste your money.

I had napa shocks and i didn't like them much. Real harsh ride. I'm not sure what kind I had but I didn't like them. Just plain Napa, I guess. I've had monroe sensetracs and I really liked those. Nice ride. and I've also had the rancho rsx self adjusting shocks. I Really liked those a lot. Nice ride as well. Have you searched this site? Shocks are talked about quite a bit around here.

I put a pair of Gabriel's on the front of mine last summer. Got them at PEP Boys for about $50.00 each. They bolted right in with no problems.

I put on Monroe sensatracs jsut before winter and mine too had all 4 factory shocks still installed.

Difference was night and day in ride quality. There is a bit less body lean as well...but its still an SUV... ;)

The front shocks look very easy to replace
Are the rear shocks about the same???

Does 4wheel parts still have that pro-comp deal? 4 shocks for like $100?

Pro-comp isnt the best, esspecially on-road, but they definatly get the job done =)

Very easy, I never even put the truck off the ground. The rears can be tough if those bottom bolts are seized...like mine were

the fronts are easy if the bottom bolt dosen't shear off... youve been warned lol

The cheap Napa shocks are junk. Don't waste your money. Mine had them on it and on dirt roads it wouldn't steer. The front end would just bounce.

I got the 4wheelparts pro comp special a few weeks ago. (actually I ordered them a few months ago, but with the service I'm getting from them I just got them in) So far I'm very happy with the shocks and very unhappy with 4wheelparts. I'm still waiting on the right steering stabilizer bracket. The shocks work very well going high speed on dirt roads. The truck is a lot more stable than it was. They're fine on the road too. I've made a couple long interstate trips and it feels great.

Start soaking bolts now to get them off. The upper rear mounts are the hardest to get to, but pretty easy when you drop the spare tire. The bottom bolts are probably going to be hard to get off. An impact gun didn't get one off then I broke the bolt with a pull handle.

Bilstien are worth the money.
