Im new to the site..been reading for a few hrs now and there sure seems to be alot of knowledge here. my girlfriends 97 explorer with a 5 speed manual and some God-awful idea of an automatic full-time, part-time, some-times transfer case (borg warner 4405, i love my SIMPLE 95 bronco) is now NO-TIME, and has left her staying for an extended Christmas visit. I will try and make this short. On her way here, a 200 mile drive...the rig started slipping out of gear whenever there was back pressure on the motor, then there would be a high pitched buzzing...with some coaxing and messing with downshifting, it would go back into a lower gear..then continue on..only to later do it again. I took it for a drive...got a few miles from home..lost all gears..pulled over put it in N..went through the gears..nothing..turned the selector to 4H..it dropped into 4L and has never looked back..cant get it out..backed up for a half mile or so a few different time..jacked up all 4 and spun them..nothing..removed the shift motor to try and move it manually...made sure I was in N..turned the pin and heard a clunk..still nothing..locked in..i tested the shift motor by having someone turn the 4wd selector switch..nothing there..but figure that wasnt the major prob if i couldnt get it to come out manually.. I started to drop the t-case tonight...figured i would post a note here having lurked around on this site for the last few days, see if anyone could help me..sorry for the limited info..I would certainly provide more if needed..any advice?

The buzzing while coasting is the classic worn shift rail bore issue. Look up in the stickies, Glacier has a thread that will tell you everything you need to know.
