i'm pretty sure a 302 is a 302...

some cams have different firing order (but these were usually 351w cams). of course you could just switch you're plug wires around to fix that problem... what cam were you thinking of running?

just make sure the firing order is the same, and that it's a cam that specs well for you're needs and it should do fine.

5.0 explorers have roller cams (as did mustangs since the 80s) so whatever cam you choose, it should be a roller, and it should be fuel injection compatible. you may need to have a custom chip for you're injection if the cam is too radical. im sure someone else knows more on this than i do.

You should have to have a tune, but it would help you take full advantage of the cam. You can put most 302 roller cams in it, but a custom cam is your best option. Aftermarket cams are designed for mustangs and like like, not explorers which want power in different places.

well reason being is motor in exp blew up, so i took motor out of a 89 foxbody and put back in the exp, but i havent had any luck getting it to run right. when you start it its super hard to start and when it finaly does start u have to keep pumpin gas (like on a carb).when you unplug the maf it starts alot easier but you still have to pump it,,, ive checked everything pump filter, reg, new maf, getting fire. you name it ive done it that i can think of,,,also no codes coming up...buddy told me he thought he read somwhere that thecam in the exp was diff then th stang so before i tear it apart and try it id like some more input ...

seems to me like the stock cams in each would be somewhat similar. can't you look up the specs for a stock replacement cam for both applications?

personally i doubt it's a cam issue, probably some other fuel injection issue that got overlooked, or didn't go back together right. sounds like you've done a lot of troubleshooting already in the obvious areas, i don't have any ideas.

usually cams that are out of spec for injection systems start easily and run, they just have a surging idle, or a "flat spot", or run too rich or lean at certain rpms, etc.

maybe check that the firing order is the same between the explorer and mustang? there is a possibility that the cams have a different firing order. i know there are two orders, 15426378 for most 302s, and 13726548 for 302 H.O. and 351w

just swap wires between cylinders 5/3, and 4/7. that'll toggle between the two available orders.. then report back with the results.

yea they both have the same firing order, i didnt think that the cam would make it do this but thought id double check what i was told . i know every in and out of a mustang but the expl is a lil different and the whold dist less ect , im kinda thinking its got to be somthing simple but just havent found it yet,,, to me i would say its a fuel side issue but i have checked everything i can think of.
