Hello guys,
I have a few questions that I would like to ask. First off let me say that I am a Ford guy been one all my life. I was one of the guys that had their plant shut down here in Norfolk. So when I say what I am going to do please don’t flame me. Ok I have an 89 Jeep wrangler that I got for a REALLY good price. I want to do a drive line swap in it. I have a Dana 44 for the front already. I was looking at a 5.0 mustang motor for the engine but my cousin reminded me about the explorer having a 5.0 in it. Duh! I was looking at an 8.8 from an explorer any way because you do not need to cut the tubes. So why not get a whole explorer and pull motor and tranny? Any way I am rambling on here. I have found a 96X that has 105k miles on it body is ok interior really is trashed. But it runs and has a disc rear in it. There is a slight upper knock in the motor but quits down after warm but is still there. I plan on rebuilding any way so I am not worried about that. Just the rear end alone runs $350 to $450 anyway.
OK here are my questions
What are the differences in the 5.0 on the different years? I did a search and looked at the specs page and that gave me the hp and compression differences but I am looking for info like mass air, which ones have the gt40 and gt40p heads? ob1 ob 2? You know that kind of stuff.
I was really looking for the gt40p head one but this 96 I can get for $500. I may even be able to get him lower. All the things that people are turned off on I don’t care about. Plus if I get it I can part out a lot of good stuff and make back a little bit. Sorry for the long post thanks in advance for any help.
