need technical help transfer case

hope im doing this right? My daughters girl friend college student has a 94 explorer manual tranny that quit on her and her parents wont help her at all i have 3 kids of my own im trying to help out getting through school, I have been taking her to work and picking her up because her truck wont pull itself I thought it was the clutch but the truck will shift into gears and even in gear it want to roll/? I think it has something to do with the transfer case when i spin the drive shafts by hand the truck will move so I dont think the chain is broken could the electric motor that shifts it in and out of 4 wheel be causing it not to engage in any position? she wants to junk it and try to get something else I think it is something minor can i remove the electric motor and manually shift it to 2 wheel until we can get it home to get serious about trying to fix ? pleas anyone with experience she is trying to grow up with very little parental help and I cant afford to pay a shop to repair thanks for any help and god bless G

Sounds like its stuck in neutral. Pull the shift motor and use some pliers to put in gear. The case will be marked for each position
