2 door or 4-door?...2 door there are a bunch of option...4-door, there are not that many short of an axle swap..or rigging up a body lift and the 2" kit that is now avalable for the third gen.
Basically you're dealing with two independant suspension (front and rear) -- which are easy to lift up to about 1.5 inches (search "torsion twist" or "TT") but over that height, it becomes nearly impossible and too costly due to the limits of the CV half-shaft axles.
Well FROADER just informed me that you dont have torsion bars so forget about that "torsion twist" stuff. Sorry!
Has anyone had any luck getting Rancho to respond to questions concerning their Triple X adjustable shock #'s RS99780 front and RS99781 rear. They are listed in their catalog but none of their Dealers have them. I have sent messages thru their tech center to no avail. Everyone who reads the posts on this site should bug the piss out of them, maybe they will answer one of us.
Rocky Mountain Suspension Products in NC. just told me that is a discontinued part. Were they ever available?

I have the Triple X adjustable shock #'s RS99780 front and RS99781 rear ordered from Summit. They have been on backorder since i placed the order on 4/12. Rancho has a $100 rebate on them starting June 1st, so i told summit not to send them until 6/1
Thanks for the update John. I was just checking out summit and all I find is Rancho quick lift #'s RS999780 & RS999781 available 6/2 but I didnt see any rebate info. Kick me some more info on the Triple X's if u can. The quick lift looks ok if there 2 inch and they can produce them. The Rancho site still says QUICK LIFT COMING SOON!
Well, part of it is that the vehicle listed is 2WD, so you don't have to worry about the driveshafts in the front. I'm guessing they modified some lift spindles to lift the front and maybe did some custom work in the back to fit a solid axle (cut and re-shape frame would be involved), as well as a body lift.
At this point, I don't believe there is any kit available to lift the 3rd gen Explorers more than an inch or two because of the way the rear axle is set up. You would have to do some major fabrication to lift the rear more than that...

if uve checked out rize industries, they made a 4 wheel independent 6 inch lift for the expedition with the same issue... they made a completely new rear diff cradle that is completely separated from the frame where those holes r for the driveshafts.... go to rizeindustries.com and check it out... same could be done with the explorer if they gave a ****
