Explorer Eddie Bauer
Hi to all, just to let you all know that i was really amazed with all the cool stuff and info you guys have around here on the explorer :).

I have a Ford Explorer 1994 (Eddie Bauer Edition) and i would really appreciate if you guys can assist me with my plan to modifying it. I'm planning for the following

1. 2 inch suspension lift with shock replacement
2. Installing a slip differential with 4.10 rings
3. Installing 31x10.5 tires with 15x8 rims

I'm still not really confident with what parts will i require to accomplish all this. I did manage to find online a skyjacker 2" lift kit but i'm not sure what are the other components required for me to purchase. Regarding the drivelines, i didn't manage to get anything on the slip differential and the rings.

I'm not specific on going for skyjacker, i'm totally open with you advises :)

Skyjacker lifts are good. If you can get that, you'll be fine.

Wheels are your choice. There are tons of variety available to fit the Explorer. Choose a 15 x 8 with 4" back spacing with a 5 x 4.5" bolt circle.

Tires are also your choice. There are lots of great 31 x 10.50 tires out there. I like the Kuhmo MTs for all around use. The BFG MTs or ATs are also good choices. Tire style is dictated by the terrain you wish to wheel. For sand, go with an AT (all terrain) type tread instead of a MT (mud terrain). The AT will float up and over the sand better, while the mud tires have very aggressive lugs that dig in. For rock work, a lot of different tires work well, including the Pro Comp MT Extreme.

The differential you are looking for is a limited slip, not a slip. The carriers needed for limited slip duty are often available on eBay, and you can always purchase one from any of the major off-road vendors like Moab Off-Road (www.moab-offroad.net) or 4X4 Parts. etc. Gears are also available, and costs run between $150 - 250 a set. You will need to replace front and rear gears in order to use 4x4, as both axles need to match exactly. The gears also need to be professionally set up, which takes specialty tools and a good mechanic.

Oh man, i guess like i have lot's of shopping to do. Thanks a lot for all the info. I will start going through the sites and let you know how it goes.

I really appreciate it.
