Hey guys,

I have been only looking at 98-01 V8 2WD Explorers to buy. It seems almost impossible to find them with under 100,000 miles for less than $6,000. I want you all to look at this one, and tell me what you think of the vehicle itself, and then what your geting for the money. It's not the color I was realy wanting, but it's not bad, do you like the color? What do you all think? Much appreciated. I did go and look at it a couple days ago. Radio display and rear wiper didn't seem to work. As you can see it has a dent on the right rear quarter, misc scratches, bug gut marks on the front edge of the hood, faded grill. Mine is a 2000 and it had 98,000 miles on it and I bought it for 7,500$

Well, I'm really picky with anything...I only like the top of the line stuff possible...I do like the color thow!

i got my '98 for $2800 out the door, including tax and registration, with 101,000 miles on it

Glad to share my opinion/input. Keep in mind many of us have different priorities.

1. Color doesn't thrill me. But I could live with it or have it painted. (ref. priorities I mentioned earlier)
2. Interior looks very good. big +, but no leather :thumbdwn:
3. Mechanical condition. Have it checked out throroughly by an independent shop. What you pay for this is well worth it, if you're serious about this vehicle. Ask the seller for documented maintenance records.
4. Plan a budget $$ for what you can afford to spend on this thing after you buy it. Tires, accessories, maintenance due at 100k miles, mods, wheels. Prepare yourself with this before you buy.
5. If the dent bothers you (it would me), get an estimate for a repair and factor that into your purchase price and negotiate, negotiate.
6. Ultimately, plan to purchase a vehicle that you will enjoy for a long time. Let's face it, the market for V8 SUVs is about as soft as it's ever been. Another negotiating point.
7. Leave any emotions about the vehicle at home when discussing your terms with the seller. Stick with the facts. Keep the intangibles out of the discussion. (ex. "your friends will love it, you'll look cool at school, your dad will be impressed.")
