2005 Explorer Eddie Bauer
I recently replaced my 2004 Explorer with a 4.6 with a 2005 Explorer with a 4.0. I noticed the performance isn't there. Are there any simple bolt-ons that would give me a similar performance? What do you recommend? Also does anyone know the paint code for the gold that is on the bottom of the Eddie Bauer? Thanks.

The best bang for the buck would be underdrive pulley(s)
An intake and cat back exhaust will help as well.
Computer tuning will also be of benefit.

Good luck ....

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I seen 2 kits that were readily available for the exhaust, one is MagnaFlow and the other is Gibson. Any idea which one is better? Thanks for the advice.

I got dual 40 series flows on my 01 sport

I prefer Flowmaster mufflers ( I use the 70 ). I would get the muffler you want and have a local exhaust shop custom bend you a 2 1/2" cat back.

Good luck ...

don't waste your time it's an SUV for god sakes people why do want to race it???

you were far better off with the 4.6 than the 4.0 to begin with i sure wish mine was a v8 i'm just sayin i wouldn't waste the light of day on performance parts for a 6cyl truck...because by the time its all said and done you'd spend maybe 5k or more with things like exhaust, headers, pulleys, throttle body, flash tuner, camshafts, superchargers, my god the list is endless...

Okay, thanks! I will give that a shot and I appreciate the info.

No one said he wanted to race it... Some people just like to have some extra power under the hood, whether it be to tow a trailer or to pass the dude going 68mph in the fast lane on the highway. I'm guilty of that last one, I'd like to have a little more passing power. Or maybe he just wants to watch those sh!tty little civics that try to race anything that rolls in the rear view mirror. Everyone's got their reasons for things...

he said "advice." so i gave him sum' it was my .02 cents

hmmm underdrive pulleys..where can i find that? i know one of our members use to sell them but don't think he still does..also would that void the warranty? I just purshased an extend warranty and don't want it to get voided

That advice is nonsense, sorry.

I would suggest doing cai, exhaust, and hollow out your throttle body for starters. With these small mods you will notice a good difference.

how is that nonsense aldive...that is how much it would cost hell probably close too 10k after you really look at the big picture...with extra things here and there...i could redo a fox body mustang with a S/C is for that kinda of money ...that would run 12's to 13's

Your advice was not a contribution to the thread, he only wanted to know how to give his V6 a little more push. You stated your opinion on the matter, which helped nothing. He's not building up his motor that much, just a couple things to wake it up.

supercharger with tuner $4,400

exhaust magnaflow stainless...$500

Headers....$581

Intake Kit (CAI) $135

and thats about $5700 dollars ...couldn't find the other items like pulley cams, throttle body, etc...but this gives you a basic idea of how much it really cost to get real horsepower out of a V6...

wasn't trying to be mean earlier just being realistic...or hell maybe you have money i' don't know wish i did though..

and as far as simple bolt ons are concerned the answer is probably no...because the V8 you had ...was loaded with torque...and listed above is what will give that same feeling...and then some...
