hey fellas, i am wanting to get a fresh set of headlight bulbs before winter comes and the nights are longer. i would like a clear, and bright beam without having it so bright that im blinding fellow motorists. i thought about HIDs but i think they might be too bright, especially with my truck being lifted it could possibly be dangerous.

i would love any opinions and thoughts on different brands of bulbs that would be what im looking for. i dont know too much about HIDs, but are there different types in terms of their brightness? thanks in advance!

I've got Silverstar Ultras in mine and I really like them. Just your typical halogen bulb but they're noticeably whiter and brighter than the other silverstars. I like them because I do a lot of night driving and driving on backroads.

I have always liked these: (the ones on the right of the page)

They give a pure white, bright light beam and they look cool when they are off too. You need to upgrade your harness with the one they have there or it will toast your headlight switch.

I also have the Silverstar Ultra's and love them. The light output is fantastic. I used to run the regular Silverstars, and have found these to be a marked improvement. Great bang for the buck.

I have to say that the Silverstar Ultras are darn good bulbs, much brighter than just stock replacements, and they don't blind people either, that is what my Hella 550s are for, but only for people with cheap HID kits, and factory lenses.

Haha agreed I really like the output and life of the SS Ultras. Although I haven't had to use either set of my offroad lights to tell someone to turn off their brights yet. The rear aux lights have been used for people with their brights on behind me a few times though.

Do they make SS Ultra bulbs to fit in the driving lights of a 2004? I been debating HID's or SS?

SS Ultra is just plug and play and they do make them to fit your 04. HIDs are superior to halogen but you need to get projectors and the setup is a little more involved.

<--- another SS Ultra user.

I have the regular SS's in my VUE. I got them before the Ultras were on the market. Going on 6 years or more with the same bulbs.

Remember to not touch the glass of the bulb with your fingers when changing them!

That is an excellent point.

If you go with the 4.3K HID kit its not too bright. They are white and not blue like the brighter HID kits. I have a set on my ST and all I did was park about 10ft behind my girlfriends car and point my headlights down until they werent blinding them and then I drove past my truck with the lights on in her car to see and they didnt blind me at all. I highly recomend them if your still open to the idea of HID's.

It was mentioned earlier, but I am curious too.
Do they make the SS Ultras for the driving lights? Particularly for the round fog lights on the 99 bumper.
