nerf bar install

i have seen many explorers with nerf bars and i am woundering why some hang down low and others i have seen are right up against the body. I want to put some on but only if they will fit up close. Please help! Also i am new to this site and love it

RYMELPIE; Are you asking about the difference between "nerf bars" (the commercialized versions) versus Rock Sliders? If you want the kind that are generally closer to the rocker panels (versus step bars that jut out-ward), they are often called "rock sliders". There is a company that just got plans together on this board to make them for the X, they were based out of NV but I can't remember how to contact them (any help Rick?). I recently used the SEARCH function on this board (located at the top) and searched under "Rock Sliders" and custom Nerf Bars, and got a ton of useful info. Hope that helps. Good Luck.
