My son decided he now wants a set off nerf bars. I assume he just means a pair of the chrome or black ones that mount to the frame and run under the door. Kinda like a roll bar but on the frame, using it as a step. I know they make exact fit ones someone but is there just a generic length I can buy and just drill my mounting holes. I know, I'm and cheap ass:-) It's a 91 sport. What length should i be looking for and where is the best place to buy?

Thanks,

Gerald

There are two things to consider on this.

1) Are they Nerf bars or rock rails he wants?

2)What is the reason he wants them?

If he wants a set of Nerf's for looks and ease of getting into his rig I suggest you do like I did. I found a rolled over same gen, and haggled a price. The factory ford Nerf bars bolted right up, the holes were already there. I just had to go to the dealer and spend $15.00 for the bolts and clips. I have some pics in my albums.

If he wants to go rock crawling, then a set of welded rails are in order. They are custom made, and in many shapes and sizes. From square tube, to round tube to a combination of both. These are welded to the frame of the rig and are strong enough to support the weight of the rig if it so happens to get centered on a rock. This allows the rig to escape harm, and costly repairs to the underbelly, rocker panels and doors.

Find out what his reasons are, do a little research, shop around, and share a project mod together, and enjoy your time together.

i am going to get some welded up for rock crawling and that just to toughen it all up.... but i was told the frame there on the side was a weak spot, i also want them so i have another place to lift if i need to with my hi-jack... what are your thoughts on this?

I had a set of smitty built nerf bars when my truck was new and in stock form. After 2years they started rusting out (form the inside) and 2yrs later I cut them off. Ideally I would have gotten rock sliders that gave me the step I wanted, but were also heavy duty and not cheap..

im gonna jump in on this thread, any one know where i can get a set of (chrome preferred) nerf bars for my 93 X 4dr

used for: to get my short fat ass in easier and the kids.
