Hi there, I've been around the forum for a while but this is my first time posting.
I bought a 03 Mercury Mountaineer for $650 it has 120,000 miles on everything except the Engine. It was replaced back in 2012 with a mustang one because the original one seized. Truck runs fine had some binding when turning do to the AWD, at this time I removed the front shaft and its smooth now.
The problem I have is today my wife was driving at about 55mph or so and when she lets go of the pedal the speedometer drops to 20 or 30 mph or less if she completely removes it. As soon as she depress the pedal again it goes back to whatever speed your moving at. At no point does the truck drop the actual speed that fast it goes through de normal slow deceleration when you let off the gas but the speedo drops 15-20 mph instantly. She also mentioned the O/D light flashed like five times and shut off and the ABS light came one for a minute and shut off again. At this time no lights are on.
I am deployed so I have no way to test this myself. I did ask her while driving slow does it do it and she said yes she was moving at least 15 mph and the speedo showed zero till she puts her foot on pedal and it will go back up to tracking everything normal and as soon as she lets go of pedal again it will drop to zero.
Just trying to get some ideas on what I can be looking at, she freaks out rather quickly and trying to give her idea of what it could be so she can take it in. She is in Germany so American mechanics are not found everywhere. Thanks and sorry for the long post.
