05 Explorer Sport Trac
Hello everyone. I just purchased a 05 Explorer Sport Trac 4wd. It has 22,000 miles on the odometer. Body is in good shape, interior is so, so. I'm happy with it though because I picked it up from local Ford dealer for $16,900. Not a bad price considering the others with that low miles are going for 18K or more.

I have noticed one major issue that I wanted to get some opinions on. When I break lightly I feel quite a bit of feedback in the steering wheel. It pulses and vibrates quite a bit when braking. I just can't imaging something would be wrong with the brakes with only 22K miles.

The salesman said everything was fine. Personally, I don't think so. I'm thinking of taking over to my local repair shop to have it checked out.

I found a complete set of slotted rotors and pads for the front and back on Ebay for $180. Anyone have success purchasing rotors and pads from a ebay store? Also, do the brakes differ for 2WD and 4WD?

Thanks in advanced!

Sounds like a nice find. I just bought an 05 sport trac 4x4 with 21k miles and paid almost 19k from a dealer.
Sounds like the rotors are a bit warped, mine feel a little bit like that also, and are a bit noisy. I haven't used slotted rotors before but it sounds like you just need new rotors.
Good luck, let us know how you like the slotted rotors if you buy them

Just get the front rotors turned, you don't need new ones. Previous owner likely did not downshift on hills...like my wife, whose car requires cut rotors at least every year and new rotors every two.

Well, I took it to the dealership and they confirmed what I had feared. It needed all new rotors and pads with only 22K mile on it. My sales rep was very cool about it and the dealership decided to pick up the entire cost for me.

Whoever owned this truck prior me must have really put this thing thru the ringer.
