- 1991 Explorer Sport
Hi,
Great Forum...... My name is Chris, I'm from Northern California. I'm a former Jeep person and recently purchased a 1991 Ford Explorer Sport (2 door). I looked at Jeeps and 4Runners, but couldn't find anything decent for what I wanted to spend.
I ended up finding this rig in the local paper. I had looked at a few and discovered that most sellers were full of b.s. as to the vehicle condition. I went to see this vehicle thinking it was just another waste of time.
Anyway, I found out this Explorer was owned by a Air Force captain who bought it new. He had all the service records. The paint and body are in great shape. Interior is in perfect shape. Has a warn 8000 lb winch that was only used once. Nice Sony stereo. New tires. Brush guard. Viper alarm system with remote start option. Only 113,000 miles. The ONLY PROBLEM is the 4x4 system had been inop for five or six years.
Thinking I could just drive it in 2wd mode if it cost too much to repair the 4x4, I bought it. (He was deploying in two days and had to get rid of it fast). He took $2000 for the rig.
I discovered this site the same night I bought it and learned that the transfer case motor was most likely the reason the four wheel drive system stopped working. I removed the motor, cleaned it up, put it back on and now EVERYTHING works on this vehicle....... Including the cruise control!!!!
I'm really happy to be a fellow Explorer owner and look forward to learning alot of this site.
Thanks and sorry for the long post....
Chris
