i just put on a new billet grill insert on my 97 explorer. the problem that i have is getting to the hood release. sure i can stick a screwdriver in there to open it, but does anyone have a better non-ghetto idea?
I guess you could hook up a wire then run it behind the grille so that when you pull the hood popping latch inside your X, you could pull the wire and release the hood without using a screwdriver.
i just installed a 98+ hood latch on my 96 so i can install a speed grille. I had to drill two holes in the hood and make a backing plate with two treaded holes to attach it. I also had to grind a little to allow the hatch to fit- but the whole install took about 30 mins-
With my grille, I drilled a hole in the latch and screwed the extension piece in and then angled it toward the grille so that I can reach in with one finger to push it to the side and release the hood.
