The brake pads on my 02 X are coming up on needing replacing (1/3 left), the rotors seem fine but haven't decided on those. What brake pad/rotor combos are you guys using that work well and minimize the squeal?

Just a datapoint or two here. A bunch of years ago at about 70k miles I replaced the original Ford parts with rotors and ceramic pads from Napa (used their good stuff). No real complaints, although I was never really happy with the lack of bite and wooden feel. More recently I changed the front pads to Wagner Severe Duty. These I prefer. Better bite, better feel, long lasting, zero noise, very little dust. Maybe 10k miles on them so far. Can't comment on rotor wear yet. Just bought the same pad compound for the rear to finally swap out the ceramics. I understand this compound is often used in police vehicles, ambulances, etc.

I recently put pads and rotors on the front of my 98.
Put the cheapest rotors I could find @ $18/each and a set of Wagner Quiet Stops.
They stop as smooth as silk, great initial bite, no noise and very little dusting.
Excellent set of brakes for under $100 bucks.

I'll look into those thanks

Were they actually called "quiet stops" or was it the "thermo quiet"?

Thermo Quite sounds right. Sorry about the mix up.

No problem, just looking them up and wanted to make sure I was looking up the right product. Could have been a name change over the border or something older/newer version of it.

Anyone ever try Hawk or EBC brakes?
