Hi All,

I am new to the board. Just bought a 2001 Explorer Sport with the 5 speed auto. Is there anything I should know about these trucks? Thanks.

Brad

Hmm I think you should know that they're pretty darn cool!

Seriously though, I beleive there is a TSB on the tranny not having compression in 1st or 2nd gear. Do a a search on it.

BTW, welcome to the site!

I have a few pics in the before and after section. When the final paint job goes on, I will post some more.

Hi Brad:
I too am a new Canadian member!
I bought a 2001 Explorer XLT. As you will see by my post "2001 XLT bucking" I think I have a little problem and wonder if you experience the same thing?
Try running at 55 kms/hr on dry smooth pavement and just keep her steady. See if you get any jerking like its trying to change gears? Let me know and best of luck on your new wheels.

Eh?

Welcome to our new Canadian members!

Not sure of any issues with the 2001's, be sure to try a search (check my signature) to see if there is any past info. Good luck!

Happy postin'!:)

And feel free to post some pics of your X's!

Welcome Canadian fellers....I hope you guys realize that yesterday's gold medal game was a fluke right? :)

Just kiddin....

Hi Doom,

I will be picking up my truck in 2 - 3 weeks. i will let you know about the bucking when I get it.

Aggie,

After seeing the game, I think the only fluke was that the score wasn't 8 to 2...Just kidding also. It was a fun game to watch, and I'm sure glad it was Canada/US in the finals.

Just a little background - I've raised three boys 2 of whom played competitive hockey and coached for several years. IMHO that was the best game I have watched regardless of who won and the NHL would get a lot more viewers if the players played with that kind of heart.
Naturally I loved the outcome and don't forget the woman's gold!!

In trying to search I find it difficult to describe other than "bucking" what the vehicle does. I wonder sometimes if it isn't tires - but then what do you search under??

I'll keep trying - one responder said find a new dealer - Ford's don't do that - maybe he is right on

Just picked up the 2001 explorer, and I can confirm that there is no bucking. The tranny is smooth shifting and very predictable. Nice truck to drive. Any luck figuring out what's wrong with yours Doom?

Hi Brad:
Congrats on your new wheels. And thank goodness you don't have my problem. I have two dealers working on it and the Ford factory is also working on it. they have three other units in Regina with the problem.

Two months and no solution.

One other item to watch for is the quality of paint on your back bumper. I had rust starting under the bumper hitch and when I tried to clean it the paint rubbed off. Ford didn't flinch and is going to replace the bumper no questions. Therefore I suspect this is a common fault so watch for it before warranty expires:p
