I was just wondering if putting a performance chip that changes shift points would help keep the tranny alive longer. I was thinking about getting a chip before, but after the rebuild, i rather just not have any tranny troble.

shift kit and tranny cooler help. I would think that if you increase line pressure, and make the tranny shift firmer it should make it last longer.

Bingo.
Tranny cooler and shift kit would help, computer chip won't help in tranny longevity.

what are some good shift kits? what do they do?

Internal: B&M and Transgo. They change the flow of tranny fluid in the tranny and increase shift pressure to make shifts firmer and faster.
External: B&M Shiftplus Electric Shift Improver. Basically a resistor box that changes the signal from computer to tranny, making the tranny shift firmer and faster with the new "instructions".
