I just got my clutch replaced on my 98 explorer sport and its stiff as hell. It requires about 2 times more force to push in and the gear box won't let you shift until the petal is 1mm from the floorboard. The petal also squeeks when you push it in.

Looking around it seems if people normaly complain that the petal becomming more light and buttery. Should i be worried?

I guess when a clutch goes bad you can get further out with the petal until it engages? Because this new clutch has to really be pushed in to the wall!

The clutch being stiff can happen. But having to always be right on the floor to shift doesn't sound right.

i guess the clutch is stiff because of the new pressure plate? but i mean its really a big difference. The petal to the floor might be because of some kinda adjustment that i need to pull the clutch engagement point back? maybe there is a thred on it

There is no linkage or anything that can be adjusted. It a hydraulically controlled clutch. Sounds like something might be messed up with the slave cylinder/throw-out bearing assembly. My parents had a new clutch put in their Ranger and the new sc/tb assembly wasn't releasing equally and went bad in about a year. They are pretty flimsy units.
