Well, like most teenagers I will soon to be getting a nice family handmedown '99 Its in great condition with only 56k miles on it so im very lucky to get it, but the fact its completly stock and tan, gives it a kinda soccor-mom look. So far i was thinking pant it black nice lift, and sound systen.

Basically, i dont have a clue what having it painted will cost and hope somone here can give me an estimate.

Would it be better for me and my dad to paint it ourselves?

Thanks for the help...

Definetly not uncool ;)

Painting is going to be a pain. And won't look good unless a pro does it in a booth(there are exceptions before I get my head bit off). Its easier to go out and buy what you want. Or make tan look cool ;)

how much would a pro paint job cost tho?
and how much did that supercharger set you back?

gotta say thats a damn nice car, but i dont think i have the money for that

Thats not mine lol. Although I did look at a tan one before I got my white one.

Just showing you how cool it was :p

I would say a good paint job doing all the door jambs and such would set you back a couple grand.

theres plenty of cool tan trucks..and lifted tan trucks are the best..lol

anyway welcome and good luck with whatever you choose.

BTW a good black paint job..lookat anywhere from 3-6k for a full repaint including under hood/door jams

well i guess theres gonna be a cool looking tan lifted truck... no way im gonna come up with 3 grand for a paintjob on a 8 grand kbb truck...

guess ill put it into tires and wheels

You can always go to one of those other places and pay $300-500 for a paint job.

Get it done at Mako for like $500. They do solid work.

mako does not do good work, you will regret it hardcore. I just bought a cheapo car to drive and it has a new mako job on it and its SUCKS

My father had his Lincoln done by them, and they did a pretty good job. Granted, it's a $500 paint job, it's not going to be wonderful, but I think they're solid for the price, which is one of the major concerns here.

dont you have to prep the vehicle yourself, or is that for the even cheaper paint job? because the car i got looks like the paint was just sprayed over the old.

My friend had his Kia painted black by a place similar to maaco, $600. Its a decent job, nothing spectacular, but thats fine.

I'm guessing the middle paint job at MAaco (they have 3 types i think) would be very similar, and would be like 1100 for a explorer.

after hearing the prices, im gonna... guess ill put the money into somthing better... like gas

Paint is the most expensive thing on a vehicle.

Tan is DEF cool. Mine looks awesome...haha. I don't see the soccer mom look you're refering to with the tan

Okay it is Macco, not Mako.

Macco jobs look okay( at best ) for a few months. Simple ecconomics. $600.00 for a paint job. How much of that goes to QUALITY material, and QUALITY labor? Over head, office, property, enviroment, getting the picture ?

Let me put it to you this way, we are just finnishing an all over paint job on a Dodge Ram Hemi. It is an 04 I believe. The project has been in the shop for over a week, and likely wont leave till Monday making it a eleven work day project.
Think about the cost. $600.00 ? Yeah right.

Quality paint jobs are expesnive for a reason. Cheap paint jobs are cheap for a reason.

Oh, BTW well maintained any color can look good.

Think about getting creative with trim and things like that. If you are still unhappy with the tan, you are not with out affordable options keeping that color.

ive been looking around for lift and new tires/ wheels. the onlyprob i have with the tan is its soccormom appeal. hopefully a badass offroad look will change that.
