On my passenger side door you have to lift way up on the handle to open it, the locks work fine and there is tension all the up and down on it so it is not the spring problem detailed above (however my drivers side door needed that and it fixed the issue no problem)

So does anyone know a way to adjust the rod that connects the outer door handle with the latch mechinism? I can feel that there are threads on the bottom of the rod which would lead me to belive that the it can be screwed up or down, but i can not figure out how to get at it to do this.

Thanks

This is happening to my passenger side handle too. I was told it was the entire latch and quoted about $82 for labor parts and all.

P.S. this resulted in my handle breaking completely off, so i have to fix this.

82 bucks isnt bad, i kept reading where folks were getting quoted 200 + for the spring problem

There is a little yellow clip on that rod. The clip pops open and you can put the clip back anywhere on that rod you like. Very small adjustments make a big difference.

OK, So it is a clip not a threaded part, I will remove the window guide as i believe that will be the only way i will be able to get at it.

I think what clusterpup means is there is a yellow clip that adjust the door handle tension on a threaded rod inside the door panel. This is a very common issue with fords. I have a few friends that have rangers and they have the same deal. I have a first gen and I have to fix my passenger door handle, Glad I saw this maybe I will fix it today.

fast and easy, basically just had to move the clip a 1/4 inch down the rod, dorr opens perfect now:thumbsup:

Well i know what im doing tomorrow. Thanks all.

one thing to make sure is that the clip (at least on mine) had 2 levels of closed, and to get it to snap down to the full closed position i had to really get on it, and then it hit the second snap.

so i just screwed my door panel up for nothing. i cant get the window guide off and im ready to pay the $80 now.

I did not take my guide rail off. I had the window rolled up and reached around to the backside of the guide rail and did it blind so to speak. After the rod is unclipped you want to move the rod upwards and reclipp into position. I got a little frustrated and concerned at one point because the rod would not reclip right, but I just needed to take my time and feel with my fingers to decide where the clip was. I think it is worth it to try it "blind" and save the 80 bucks. Good Luck

i did not take the guide all the way off, just the bottom bolt so i could wiggle it around a little, what did you screw up on your door panel?

anyone know the part number for the actuator rod clips?
