New engine, first startup problems.

Here's the loops. And ground attatched to the starter wires.

Is the fan shroud back on it? Both my 1st gen's run coooler than what your temp gauge is showing, usually around the *N* or the *O* while driving.

So I'm running it now. Things seem a little bit normal maybe.
I think I got all the air out of the coolant system..
Still need to get gas though lol

At idle the temp gauge is steady.
At 3000rpm it does up to about 80% of the gauge and stays there. Only thing out of the ordinary is that the tachometer idles at 1100 but I know it reads 300isp rpms higher than the computer reads.

First pic is at startup
Second pic is an hour of idle later.

for my tastes, the temp is a bit high, depending on where you live, I'd consider a 192 thermostat vs the 198. The idle is high,, it should be down about 650. Oil pressure reading is high,

I'd consider some ground checks, or the very least a laser check at the thermostat housing when warmed up, is the radiator a 1 or 2 core? Did you peer down inside is it crudded up?

I got the temp all figured out... The RPM is around 800 according to this old scan tool my brother has.

However... Now i have another issue..
The Tachometer seems to be stuck at 3000rpm when idling. Its obviously not at 3,000rpm.. As well as the fact that my alternator seems to keep failing... So i definintely have a bad ground somewhere. But i just do not know where? What could be killing the alternators? I dont know if i should create another thread for this and see if anyone has any ideas?

Like, where should i check the grounds or wires? theres so many to look at 0.o

There shouldn’t be that many grounds. Should be one from the battery and one to the starter. Those will be the most important.

So, what do you think could be frying the alternator?
or causing it not to function properly?

Are you sure they are bad, or is the charge just not getting to the battery?

well the first time i hooked up a load tester to the alternator and to a ground and it wasnt returning anything. Ill have to wait until the weekend to check this time.

Fusible link?

cant say for sure, i just found a wiring harness in a box that had the starter relay and all the wires so i swapped those out...

Alternator is friend though. I tried swapping out the Voltage Regulator on the alternator and it worked but now ive discovered the alternator only works when you hit it with a hammer which i hear is a pretty good sign that its fried.

Brushes are likely just worn. I’d ohm out the cables leaving it.

Naah, i already replaced the brushes with some half used ones. still died. I think its the original alternator as the vehicle only had 230k on it

The brushes making poor contact is the only think I can think of that’d be effected by banging it with a hammer.

Alright, so new alternator and the whole thing runs fine.

Been in the highway a few times but I think it's shifting from second at 3000rpm. I remember reading somewhere that could be a vacuum issue?
Seems to. Take about 14 seconds from 0-60 so it's a bit sluggish. And it does 60 at about 2500rpm.

Any ideas on that?
