Hey all, I am putting a new 5.0 in my truck, ordered from RockAuto. Since the motor is out is there anything I should replace with a better version? I thought I remember reading somewhere that the oil sensor (temperature maybe) is crap and should be replaced with blah blah brand. Most of the engine bolt on parts will be replaced with new; plugs wires, etc etc. Thanks for your input

I have no input on this but i'm interested in how this goes. why did you go with rockauto instead of something like jasper engines. With 148,000 on mine i've looked into what i'd do if mine went. I like the truck so I wondered what the cost is, how much you'll have into this project. I've always been jealous of people that would take out and rebuild their own engine. I'm not sure i'd have the guts.

My mechanic and I talked a few things over before I came to this decision. The person that owned my truck before me did not take good care of it at all, I didnt discover this till after I owned it for a while or else I would have bought another.
We could have thrown in a junk yard engine but who knows what problems it would have. A new engine from ford was about 3500 but with a 3year unlimited mile warranty and motorcraft parts. If I was gonna rebuild I would probably go with some performance upgrades so my mechanic contacted a mustang shop that built an engine for one of his personal cars and a rebuild with mild cam would be around $2500 with a one year warranty. The price was better but I like the peace of mind of a 3 year warranty. I decided to look into Rockauto and they had Famous engines for $1600 minus the core and shipping but they also had a 3 year warranty. So for half the price of ford I got a new engine plus a 3year warranty. My mechanic will also handle any warranty issues if they come up. I plan to keep this truck for a long time so this seemed like the best route.

I would have liked to rebuild it myself but I have never dove into an engine before, aside from old 2 stroke boat motors. One day Ill put up a build thread
