New engine- oil filter bracket problem

I have a 92 explorer xtl. Got a new engine for it and found that where my old one has a bracket that drops the oil filter down horisontal, the new block has it coming strait out vertical. Q. Can I unscrew the threded pipe from the block, then screw on my original bracket? Any help app.

Its worth a shot. I dont see why it wouldnt work, unless ford put out different sized threads for the oil filter mount.
