So after many threads started, and many questions asked, I now have a Flowmaster 40 Series now installed on my explorer.

I got my tax refund, and decided to go to a shop downtown, and have them do it... finally.

I had tried doing it myself, using a cherrybomb muffler, and it sounded crappy, and my gas mileage was horrible.

45 minutes was all it took them... Had a Flowmaster 40 Series, Single in / Single Out put on, with a new tail pipe bent. I think he said the piping was 2.0", but not sure. It idles and runs a lot more smoother now.. Acceleration is improved, not faster, just a smoother acceleration... I've read it takes a few weeks to 'burn in', so I'll update in 2 weeks with how it sounds then..

To those with aftermarket exhausts, I'm one of you now!!

u got sound clip of it would love to hear how it sounds

congrats...yes definitely a sound clip. was looking at the 40 myself wanna hear it on an ex

I want to hear one on a OHV explorer like a 1st gen, see if you can get a sound clip.

will do, i'll try and find a video camera, and take a clip now... and then a clip in a couple of weeks to see if there's any significant change.

You should notice a change. I did... It took a few months for mine to be noticeable. I love it.

I used to have a clip of mine somewhere but I can't find it anymore :dunno:

I love the way it sounds all ready... just need it to be a little louder, lol.

This truck will eventually be lowered, and geared more toward power and performance for what the 4.0L can handle... More of a show truck if you will.

It will get louder, mine did. I was dissapointed when I first had mine installed. It was a bit too quiet, now it's just right :D

How much did it cost for them to install it? Plus make you a new tail?

How much did it cost for them to install it? Plus make you a new tail?

130.00 plus tax... so a final total of $139.10.

that includes cutting out the old stuff, the new muffler, the extension, and the new tail pipe, and installation.

took about 45 minutes from the point i parked my truck in front of the shop. it's a local place... and they are known for being teh best.

did u do the sound clip

not yet. i have class tomorrow, and i'll go by the library afterwards and see if they ahve cameras to check out.

Sounds pretty cheap.

Do you think I'd be able to get a SUV 50 installed with a new tailpipe 2.50 for cheap?

well if you live in alaska like your signature says, i have no idea.

i'd try and find a local muffler shop if possible, that's what Eddie's Muffler Shop here in augusta, ga is. just a hometown muffler shop that does about two cars an hour.

the only reason i had a new tailpipe bent, was mine was m.i.a.

you could probably put the 50 series on yours without having to get a new tailpipe... but someone with a v8 might want to double check.

just look around, i waited a year before i got mine.

MIA Tailpipe? Oh no... lol..

I most likely will not need a new tail pipe, but I was wanting a 1/4 size larger tail pipe.

Did that price include the muffler? Or did you bring it in?

You also mentioned you had a smoother acceleration? I thought mufflers did nothing for driveability?

some mufflers can have a world's a difference.
also depends on how wide your piping is. if you add headers? a new y-pipe.
a whole bunch of things.

I think we should make a thread that just have 1st generation explorer sound clips of different exhaust's and get a MOD to sticky it.

the price i quoted was everything, including the muffler. they had the muffler stocked at the shop, and all the aluminum piping all ready there.

the ride of the explorer is the same, but like i said, for me, in my case, my acceleration is a lot smoother... coming from a 1993 Ford Explorer XLT with 260k miles...
