New Exhaust... finally!!!

I think we should make a thread that just have 1st generation explorer sound clips of different exhaust's and get a MOD to sticky it.

seconded..

it would help a LOT of people... think about it, post a video of your current exhaust, with exactly what you did to it... so once people found a sound they liked, they would know what they needed.

i got a friend to do the clip today, just waiting on him to email it to me tomorrow.

i had this suggestion in my thread but apparently im not important.. nobody responded :(

somebody should PM a mod. ONLY sound clips including.

year/engine/explain entire setup(maybe give a few details on cost, etc)/a sound clip

maybe a sticky in each forum? for each generation? i'll find a mod and see if we can..

just sent a message to Rick... hopefully I didn't blabber to much and got my point across convincingly...

i said video and sound clips though, not just sound clips... people like to WATCH!

That's great I hope we get this done. I think the whole idea of having the year model and what type would be a great input, also the cost would help to. Then again cost could have a variety, but at least you could get an idea.

Here's my contribution. I posted this video originally over the summer the day after installing the new motor. Eventually, I will post some better video now that it's broken in. I'm still babying it a little in this video.

The exhaust setup is Hedman Hedders and Y-pipe (don't buy it, JBA or Borla is the only way to go), and 2.5" pipe all the way out with one Flowmaster 40 series single in, single out muffler. Everything after the Y-pipe was $175 installed at a local shop. The engine is a 94 OHV with rebuilt to stock bottom end, 95TM aftermarket castings, 422 Comp Cam, and anything required to use the previously mentioned.

mine doesn't sound that "growlish"... i'm wondering if it's because it's so new, or because i only had 2" piping put in... but you also did some engine mods which probably help it out...i'm gonna wait and see how mine develops... i noticed today it was a tiny bit louder then the past few days..

Anyone here back from a MOD on this thread topic?

nah, haven't heard a word... maybe us peons are important enough... as soon as i get a video of mine, i'm going to start a new thread for just videos... maybe we'll get better luck then.

Ok sounds good.

Here's mine although it's far from stock!

351... is that a windsor? if it is how much room do you have? that body lift MUST help it out.

and HOPEFULLY tomorrow i'll get that camera from school.

i went on friday and told them i needed a digital camera... i forgot to say "video"... so i get home, get it out, and it's a regular camera.

returned it today, completely FORGOT to get the video camera

thats what my bko sounds a bit like. i have a 40 series, im sure its blown out by now. mines deeper and all around louder.

how did you manage a 351 in an X. i had no idea

if you wanna be stupid loud and piss off neighbors just unbolt the exhaust after the cat and use a clothes hanger.... trust me its loud:D

haha it's loud, but not surely legal.

i have 2 inch pipes, if i put a 40 series on my x, would i see any change in hp, or mpg?

this is what i had put on my explorer

after one attempt of putting my own muffler on, i decided to have it done professionally.

they had to cut pretty much about a foot after the catalytic converters and bend new piping for the muffler, and a new tailpipe.

my piping, like i stated before, is only 2" wide. so i had exactly what you would be going to. i've also stated that i've noticed a little bit "peppier" acceleration, my gas mileage is back to what it normally is, but i'm waaaaay overdue for an oil change, and my front end alignment is pretty bad... so if you have good oil, a proper alignment, properly inflated tires, and don't slam the accelerator, you should see a slight increase in gas mileage.

i think it all depends on how long you'll have it for, because if you're going to get it, and sell it within 6 months, it may/may not pay for itself. but also look into getting rid of your stock airbox, and replacing it with a cone air filter and different intake tube... gives you more airflow, the easier the engine can breathe, the better mileage you can get. do some research, it's not hard, i've done mine in steps.
