for now i just did dumps, when i get a bit more time
I will do the two pipes out the back but both together on
passenger side.its very deep but with the dumps its loud inside,
once i get tailpipes it will be perfect. removed last cat thats after the O2
pipe going into that was 3" so I went 3" to muffler and dual 2.5 out.
runs good, I noticed going up the hills into town it wasnt downshifting near top
like it normally does so it is stronger now. tried getting a sound clip but my crappy cameras mic would distort every time , you can click on the best one below but its a big file. ill try and get my buddies good vcam to record a clip later. did all the work in my shop, about 40 for materials and 20 for beer :)
its all welded, clamp was just to hold it in place while we welded.

what muffler you using? It doesnt look like a flowmaster.

I dont like Flowmasters at all. Never have.
Its sold by DrGas under their own label,Xcelerator I think ..
https://www.drgas.net/
They were having a killer sale on ebay so i picked one up,
its basically a Dynomax turbo style muffler.

o ok :D I was curios cause It wasnt shaped like a flowmaster but it didnt have magnaflow on it like alot do so I was wondering what it was lol. Why dont you like flowmaster? im just curios is all :D

dont flow well, sound hollow, too common, expensive for what it is.
:)

sounds nice

Compared to what? There are some amazing numbers out there for Flowmasters. Facts backed up by dyno numbers...not opinion or fiction.

flowmasters never flow toward the top of any real world muffler testing, the baffle design is meant to kill noise by bouncing it off baffles, this works well to a point then chokes flow, thats why the better flowing Flowmasters are the ones with the least baffles which also makes them annoyingly loud, in any boosted application especially turbo they are not reccomended at all, do a search on the turbo forum at turbomustangs.com ,
http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/i...c39e11e2fff983fc48fb488d41076b&action=search2
as for real world comparisons not paid for or advertised by a muffler company :

Flowies are great for making noise, not so great at making power.
Im talking big power though,in our Explorers (200-300hp) pretty much any muffler will
work great, just depends on what sound you want. I just dont like Flowmasters myself so i dont use them.

so did u remove all ur 4 cats too

no, just the very last one thats actually after the last O2 sensor.
Dont even know why its there since the other 3 are the ones that really
do the work. The ones on the downpipes are very free flowing and the one
that combines both sides has dual inlets and a huge 3" outlet so i doubt there
would be any gain by removing any of those. The very last one however
necks down from 3" to 2.25" so in my opinion it was worth removing and it let
me hook up a 3" directly to the last cat. Seeing as it still has 3 cats and
the O2 sensors still read correctly I am certain it will still pass our testing here.
Last time they didnt even look under the car just shoved the sniffer in tailpipe
for a couple seconds and ran the OB2 codes. I will need the tailpipes all the way
to the back though and honestly I want them since I consider it a bit too loud inside right now.

I think the best performance mufflers are glass packs, they are a strait through design and from the charts I have read they are always at the higher or highst in HP gains. I like the flowmasters mostly for the sound. Since I have gutted my cats the Muffler gives the engine the backpressure it needs so i figure it should balance out. But like I said I went with a flowmaster for hte sound :D I like the way the sound if i were going performance like I did on my some of my vehicles i had in the past I would have gone with a Glasspack.

Every time i try to click on your link to here your sound clip my computer exits off all my open pages lol so I cant hear ir :(

and as far as flow comparasins to be honost Flowmasters are better than stock but From what I have seen most of them are out performed by borla and magnaflow along with most glasspacks. Thats just what I have read and seen. That being said gutted cats and a flowmaster I think will flow better than all cats and any of the above listed brands. And from what I have seen and read the 4.0 likes to have a lil backpressure so I think my system balances out alright.

is it actually an '01 or an '02? your signature says '02 but your info says '01.
It sounds good though. I've wanted to do a new muffler but didnt know how it would sound with the v6 instead of a v8.

drumming i got single in and dual out 40 series flowmasters and my 01 sport sounds different then htrdlncn

i still got my stock 4 cats but i am thinkin of removing 2 of them but i dunno if i can remove my cats.

I think its different cause in cali they have some weird laws and ****.

First of all, I want to start off by saying that I like that install. Looks good! I couldnt really tell what it sounded like in the clip but from the looks of it, it looks like a turbo muffler and Ive had one so I know what they sound like. Mild sounding but can get loud when you get on it.

With that said, its funny you said you dont like flowmaster because of flow, but get a turbo muffler. Turbo mufflers are just like stock mufflers but bacially cut in half. They are horrible at flowing exhaust gasses- worse than flowmaster. I personally own a flowmaster for the sound because my 210 HP SOHC motor doesnt need a super flowing muffler to perform well. I will say that before this flowmaster I had a hooker maxflow which flows as well as a open pipe from tests that I read; however, the sound wasnt there so I changed it out.

Do you plan on running dual tailpipes on that setup? The reason I ask is back when I got an exhaust ticket for my older exhaust, I used a turbo style muffler to pass the "sound test" so running tail pipes will quiet it down quite a bit compared to dumped

Jeez guys I was asked why I ran the muffler I did and I answered , why is everyone trying to prove how good Flowies are? This thread is about my exhaust not a poll on what muffler you like or why you run a Flowmaster, i could care less what anyone else thinks , I will run what i want.
Thanks!

Yes, as I stated above..
I will run tailpipes,
I just need some more time,
just did the dumps temporarily.
Never enough time..

I dont think any one was trying to jump all over you.....I wasnt so if I did I apoligize i didnt meen to.

GRRR lol I want to here the sound clip but my computer keeps wigging out and exiting off the page when I click on your link!

And you should run what you want! That's why there are so many different performance mufflers out there...everyone has their preferences. I run Flowmaster cat back on my Explorer, but Magnaflow on my Cobra. The only reason you got an argument at all was your comments regarding how poor Flowmasters are. You had to know that was going to spark a good debate. After all, we all are a bunch of bench racers if nothing else... :)
