new explorer owner w/ 4x4 problems...

Hi, I just bought my first 4x4 and am very excited about it. However I was not that excited the other day when we got enough snow for me to try out the 4x4.

here is what happened: everything seemed ok till I "got on it" a little. When I did it made a slam noise and shook the truck. when this happened I figured it was popping out of 4x4. well it happened a couple more times in a 10 mile distance or so. after that I turned of 4x4. later that night I got stuck in the driveway and figured I try it again. I had the same problem just this time I could tell it was going in and out...

so is this the automatic hubs slipping/breaking. where can I find info on switching to manual hubs? How hard is this swap? cost???? please help me out!

there are sooo many write ups on the 4x4 push button problem, auto locking hubs, manual hubs, shift motor rebuild, if you do a search im sure you can find what you are looking for.
