My bro in law just gave me a rust bucket of a 97 explorer. 4.0. I replaced shocks, ball joints, rotors, calipers, pads, water pump, belts, spark plugs, oil, air filter, and fuel line before the tank. Lots of work, but I hope to get a couple years out of it, it's at 208k... glad to have a place like this to get knowledge, thanks for having me.

If anyone wonders about my name, I've worked for ford for 18 years at SHV transmission, and a couple years at the Batavia plant before it closed.

Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you aboard:chug:

Welcome UAW. From one Cincinnatian to another.

Welcome to this forum! It looks like it's in nice condition. The rust on my vans is obvious from far away. I don't seen any noticeable rust on your Explorer. When you worked at the transmission plant, were you involved in building or remanufacturing transmissions?

I still work there. I deliver parts to the various assembly lines, I used to assemble super duty transmissions... that explorers body looks great, and bro in law did all routine maintenance, so mechanical is great too, but, underneath is bad, i should probably replace leaf spring shackles, they are eat thru.
