Just got done with lifting my truck, plenty of jabbering about it in the 5" Lift thread :D and I was talking to a friend of mine about the Rear Differential. Am I going to need to upgrade to a 3.83 or a 3.91 with my new lift and 33s? The truck definitely feels a lot more sluggish, so I was thinking about doing the 3.91, but I have absolutely no idea what that entails. I'm curious as to price, what to do, all the essentials for getting this done, ya know? Thanks in advance for the help gents, Keep on Liftin! :salute:

For 33s you will want to look at 4.10s. Or 4.56 if you like more power. As far as price i think its usually around 1000 bucks to have the front and rear done at a shop. Some people do it them selves but you really need to know what your doing. If you reaserch it enough and are handy with a wrench then you could do it yourself.

Well, I just googled gear ratios and found this site http://www.4x4offroads.com/gear-ratio-chart.html I entered in the necessary info for the calculation and came up with a GR of 4.31, so it looks like I'm goona have to go with a 4.27 or a 4.56. Any thoughts as to where I can find a good deal on a ring/pinion set for this? Also, I have no clue what diameter ring I need, so that info would be helpful too :) As for getting the job done, I have multiple friends that work on their engines all the time, including two that are rebuilding their engines from scratch right now, so I think I'll be set in the line of help, haha. Thanks guys.

I have 3:73's and 33's and i can for sure use a lower gear ratio. I would go 4:56
oh and also i was quoted $1,100 at 4wheelparts with everything

Since you have a 2wd you can run 4.30s if you want. 4.30s aren't made for the front axles so only you 2wd guys can use them.

Like I said, I need to ask my friends if they can help and what not, but I'm looking on SummitRacing.com and I'm seeing a Ford 9" 4.56 made by Summit for $134, should I be considering this deal or what do you guys think? I'm not even sure how to deteremine what size ring I need, lol. From what I'm understanding from research, Richmond, Dana, and Yukon are some of the better brands, but I'm not too sure exactly where to go from here. Thanks.
