Just wanted to say hey and thank the forum members for lots of great info. I bought a '98 V8 AWD w/ ~ 115K mi. about a year ago. My son was turning 16 so I gave him a pretty good "family" discount on it and we've been doing a few mods to it. Last week, we did a 3" body lift and a 4406 swap and almost have that finished.
We drove it up to 70 mph yesterday w/o the front driveshaft installed,.... all good. Installed the conversion u-joint and went to install the f150 shaft (out of a '97 4.6L) and it only compressed to ~34". That's about an inch longer than the final installed length? hmmmm... After searching and reading through a few threads, I thought I had the right DS but it looks like it might be too long. I still have about an inch left (sticking out) on the male diameter before it tapers up so I'm hoping to pull it apart, clean, and (maybe?) cut some off of the end of the spline since it seems to be bottoming out. I'm hoping cutting it shorter would be ok since this slip joint doesn't get much action due to the fixed IFS diff?
