Just picked up a 94 explorer, eddie bauer edition...great shape...shift on the fly 4x4...has 145,000 miles on it...everything works ! EXCEPT the fuel guage is stuck on 3/4 full and the abs light stays on....

Welcome. Sorry I won't be able to answer your questions, but I don't know if it is totally shift-on-the-fly 4x4. I pretty sure that is an option on newer Fords. Normally you are only supposed to or are capable of shifting on the fly from auto to high. For 2nd gens, I know the vehicle need to be in neutral to shift to low to prevent damage to the 4x4 system and stuff. Check the owener's manual on that if you have it. If not, check with the rest of the guys on this site. They will be happy to accomodate.

Thanks for your response marc ! I have yet to put it into 4-wheel drive. The ex is a limited edition if that means anything with the tow package....the owners manual says it can be shifted into 4 hi at any speed up to 55 mph....We'll see ! Thanks
