1968 AMC Javelin
Hello...I am an AMC guy looking for some information. I am working on a 1968 Javelin and I'm pretty sure the rear end isnt up to the task of a 401 on No2. Ive been told that an 8.8 Explorer rear is what Im after as they are strong, have the correct bolt pattern, and very close to the correct width of 57inches. 58.5 Im told. In a perfect world, I would like to find a 4.11 one legger with disk brakes on the cheap. Im looking for a one legger cause I want to add an aussie locker or something along thoes lines. Could you guys tell me the tallest gear these came from the factory with?? Are they all 31 spline?? And finally, is it possible to find a one legger with a 4.11 gear?? Thank you so much for the help!!! Thx...Kevin

with the 8.8 you cant have 4.11 gears but there is 4.10...to my knowlage
From Factory at least in explorers the 8.8 came with
3.27
3.55
3.73
4.10
With various Limited Slips and open's

410's are probably easier to find in newer rangers, although im not sure about the brakes. all the explorer ford 8.8's are 31 spline, and i believe most of the car applications of the 8.8 are 28 spline. the difference between 4.10 and 4.11 is neglegable, and probably just the diffeence in rounding (pretty sure this has been discussed here before...)

Thx for the quick responce guys. Are the Ranger rears the same width as the Explorers?? Disk brakes are not absolutely necessary but helpful. Thx...Kevin

You guys are awesome!!! I just got off the phone with the junk yard and got an explorer rear with a 4:10 open diff and disk brakes, the drive shaft, and the brake preportioning (Sp-5) valve for $350.00. I thought I would get the valve, and will run an explorer master cylinder on the car to be compatable with the disk brakes. If you have any more input, lay it on me!!! Thanks guys!!! Kevin
