I'm considering an 02-05 explorer as my daily driver. I have a currently have a 2005 crown Victoria which I love but I have been assigned K9 at my police job and need to be able to move the police dog to and from home for my work shifts. Is there any year that is best? We used 4.0 V6 explorers as police cars at work for a few years. I have heard bad things about that engine. Was considering the 4.6 V8 which had been good in my crown Victoria. Anyway can you guys advice on what years are best and what to look for?

I have had 3 Crown Vics / Grand Marguis. They are bullet proof and I put on plenty of miles. About a 1 1/2 ago we needed something bigger to haul our stuff down south for the winter. I sold the Grand Marquis and bought a Lincoln Aviator. It's been OK, but I'm nervous about the future.
I know there not exactly stylish, but if you want a reliable car, stay with the Crown Vic.
