New guy with lots of questions

Hey guys, my name is Josh.. I don't currently own an explorer but am considering doing a street truck build with one. I am just trying to do some research and find out what years came equipped with what motor and trans. My ideal start would be with a 4.6L awd if I can find one. And preferrably with a 4r70w trans. Looking to build a quick sleeper.

For anywhere close to "sleeper" status, you're gonna need thousands upon thousands of dollars in adding torque. These things are extremely heavy and have the aerodynamics of...well, they're not aerodynamic.

If that doesn't deter you, a 5.0 AWD should be your starting point.

I'm not too worried about the power and torque. I just need to find out the limit of the drivetrain and all. And an accurate weight for an awd truck. I want to build a 4.6 seeing as how that is the motor I know and know what it takes to make them fast. Do they make any 4.6 awd trucks? I'm not underminding your opinion of the 5.0 truck its just that I know EXACTLY what mods will net a certain power with the 4.6

The 2002-2010 models can be found with the 4.6. '02-'05 are available with a manual transmission, which I'll assume you want. AWD is available. You won't find the two-door Sport in those models, so you'll have the increased weight of 4 doors. I don't know the numbers and don't know the limitations of the drivetrain.

Edit: just read your preferred transmission. That transmission didn't come with any of the 4.6 Explorers but is available in the earlier Explorers with the 5.0.

Welcome to the forum! I bet your best suggestion would be to start a thread in the performance section of the forum. There have been a few people on here that have added superchargers and turbos so there should be a good amount of help for you.
