haven't tested yet, despite having dual band radios.
Putting in a new head unit. Is it really essential to retain RAP? I could care less about the delayed powering down.
Is there something I'm missing or not aware of?

Thanks!

I put a double din touch screen dvd from JVC in and used a harness {50$} that had the interface, i lost sync, sat radio and wheel controls, retained all other things. I may be wrong, but iirc rap is needed to retain stored channels and settings etc;

I don't have Sync, sat, sat radio or wheel controls. Which is odd since it's an EB edition. Would almost expect that to have been stock equipment.

On an aftermarket head, chan mem should easily be retained by a constant voltage line.
I looked at diagrams for both the dash wiring, and my Metra harness, and iirc there is an "always on" line for channel memory that connects to the corresponding connection in the metra harness. I'll double check though.

I know if I really need to retain RAP, I can run a wire and tap into the fuse box. Not hard, but still extra work.

rap can be maintained for almost free I have a thread where I did just that... your radio will function just as intended it just will power down like a radio in the 90's

Retained Accessory Power

Ive had your thread open in another tab for a few days now.
Are there any consequences not retaining RAP, other than delayed power down?

I don't mind running the tap, but considering I'm putting in a new head unit, and running power/RCAs, and wiring in a backup cam...it's just more work.

If there's no consequences abandoning RAP, I'm good.

it will just act like any other setup.... the rest of the vehicle will still have power after key out just not the radio

Got it installed. Other than radio and power windows not working after ignition off (which I don't care about), no problems as far a I can tell.

power windows should still work after key off

that is interesting and has nothing to do with the radio swap.... did it work before because it sound like the rap module is broken

If it worked prior it’s unlikely it’s just coincidental. Maybe you snapped a fuse when doing your wiring.

Worked before the new head unit.

Unlikely, since I didn't touch the fuse boxes.

There's a second, smaller, wiring harness that plugs into factory units. Which I left unplugged, since I had no place to wire or plug it into.

Not too concerned about it honestly. Haven't had any issues pop up.
I considered running a fuse tap for that harness, as that's what I've read needs to be done to retain RAP. But with no SYNC or NAV, Its not worth the time to run the wiring for RAP, even if just a single wire.
I also might add that my Eddie Bauer doesn't even have premium sound, so no factory sub or amps to worry about either.

Typically you snap fuses working on it near wiring or connectors, not working with the actual fuse box. If you’re happy with it not working, bang on, mission accomplished.

Everything seems in proper working order, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it :chug:

i drove around for a few days when i bought my explorer with a gaping hole in the dash with no radio installed and all plugs hanging and my windows still had rap functions ..... I personally like to be able to reach in pull the keys out and still have the radio working while pumping gas since the filler is on the wrong side I don't need someone jumping in and stealing my **** lol

I need to apologize. I did in fact retain power windows after ignition off (could've sworn I tested that). However, radio is dead immediately upon ignition off.

I remember when I was a kid back in the mid 80s. My grandparents bought an Audi 5000S. I thought it was so cool you could turn the radio on without the keys, at anytime. When I was a teenager with one of my first cars, I wired my head unit to do that. I quickly learned that was a fast way to kill your battery on accident.
