Got a Panasonic 501U for less than 200 shipped. With a dash kit, wiring harness, and install it cost about 280 total. Without adding speakers or anything Ive noticed a huge difference. The bass is great and i can play louder without distortion. Plus its got a cool little remote and with all the lights it looks awesome, especially at night. For this price, and even a bit more, I would reccomend it highly. Ive already tried classical, hip hop, dance and it all sounds great!!!

got mine for that price at http://www.caraudiovideosystems.com

PS-Now Im selling my factory head unit on ebay. I dont understand but why are people paying 200 bucks for that on ebay, when they can get a better aftermarket (much better) for less? Confuses the #@$# out of me!

Oh well, I already have a 100 dollar bid with 8 days left, so i guess i can turn around a get my speakers done now too!!!

that's cool. what speakers are you planning on getting? do you plan on getting a subwoofer?

Well I think I as of now Ive found the
Pioneer - TS-A6865 in the front at 60 a pair seem to be a good pair.

However, I since Ive gotten some more money, or will in a week, from the sale of my factory cd player, i might go ahead and get some better ones. Im not sure, any suggestions?

and

Kenwood KFC-577C in the rear at 35 a pair. The Kenwoods were on clearance somewhere so I might try them, but the back doesnt matter much anyway, so I just wanted to get something in there.

As for a sub, Im not sure, like I said the sound is pretty damn good, and I love bass and this unit does very well without a sub, so i might save the 500+ from the amp/sub for some wheels.

well since you love bass and dont plan on geting a subwoofer, pioneer isnt the ideal choice. pioneer is a much brighter sounding speaker but doesn't do well with bass response. the best 5X7/6X8s to get would be infinity, polk, or kenwood. since you are running them off the headunit and not an external amp, the knwoods would probably be your best bet. they have a very nice midbass response.

you mentioned new wheels. are you going for the street truck look? or are you planning on offroading with you explorer?

street

i want some new rims too, but cant make up my mind. so far i like TSW, Enkei, Arelli assassyn, and 100 spoke chrome LA wire wheels. i want 18" but the price difference between 17&18 is a lot of $$$. so i might go with 17.

what kind are you going for?

well whatver it is it probably wont be done until at least next summer-thats a lot of money i need to save. But im in the process of looking. Probably 18". not sure about styles.

Its not too urgent because i have the 16" stock and they're pretty cool.

doktorstoj, i have the Panosonic 600u and i matched them with Pan 6x8's in the doors... they sound great!!!... i am very pleased with the way the sound, hope that helps ya out.
PS. the Pansonic speakers arent terribly expensive, for the price and sound quality it is an A+ setup in my book!!
