Hi all, I've been an inactive member for a little bit now and finally got around to devoting a little time to the Explorer so I figured I would introduce myself. I'm not exactly "new" to explorers but I will be new to the mod scene. For now I have to unload a new car so the mods I will be "exploring" are going to be on CHEAP! LOL

A little about my ride - 2001 5.0 XLT 170,000mi at time of purchase.
I picked it up for $1,500, no leaks(engine, trans, or diff) but a very ratty interior. The front end was in bad shape so I've replaced both upper and lower control arms(with ball joints), and front wheel hubs. New brakes and rotors all-the-way-round (the E-brake shoes actually did not shatter!) All four shocks but left the "stabilizer strut" alone... let it rot; unless it's actually good for something. If it is please let me know, I can stand to learn something :)

As for now, the interior was gutted a few days ago because it smelled like burnt baby poop. Tried to keep the console intact but it was ratty too so I saved the brackets, harness, and aux power plug just in-case but I think I will go aftermarket (JC Whitney here I come!) I picked up a Blue Hawk rubber mat from Lowe's for the rear deck (hopefully I can trim this thing) and if it turns out well I will post a thread on it. I'm just going with good 'ol indoor/outdoor gray carpet for the ****pit and passenger compartment. I've come to enjoy the extra engine and road noise... it's kinda like a good troubleshooting tool; if something bangs, clanks, whines, or whistles I have an idea where it comes from! :D

I think I will remain with the stock wheels (15x7 Alloy Tear-drops... at least that's what I've called them for years). I'd like to go with 31x10.5 tires. Does anyone think I should go up to 15x8 wheels for that?

Anyway, that's it for now. Just wanted to say 'hello' and after this is done I will focus on possible engine mods until it's rebuild time.

31x10.5s fit just fine on the factory wheels

No problem, I currently have three in the driveway with 31x10.5 BFG A/Ts on tear drops
