new here few questions bout sas

i plan on running the shackles up front, with a crossmember similars to rockrangers, and ranger leaf spring hangers in the rear. but im thinking wrangler leaf springs, probably cheaper at the junkyard. I also need to find a place that sells a cheap disk brake conversion

and then i also plan to run the stock bronco steering, i hope thats to to much of a problem

if you grab a waggy d44, its the same width as a bronco d44. plus you will have the leaf springs and steering and diskbrakes all in the same package if you find the right one.

Only problem I see with wranglers is that they are a smaller vehicle, and the stock springs will probably set your ride height lower than a waggy. They would be cheaper, but for your "monster truck" it probably wont yield what you want.

could i just take the whole brake asemebly off a junkyard 78 bronco?

Yes, that's how a lot of disc conversions are done. You'll need everything from the knuckle out (I've heard the knuckles are different for disc and drum vehicles). I'd get everything, since the price shouldn't be much more, and you'll find that different auto parts stores don't come with all of the parts you need, so I'd tear out the brake hoses, and everything from the knuckle outward.

You dont need new knuckles, the Eb drum ones are better because the steering arm is higher on them than on most knuckles. Just get chevy spindles (with matching bolt pattern of course), calpier backing plates and calipers and ford 5 on 5.5 rotors/hubs and your all set.

Oh I thought they had to be changed (I remember someone trying to use drum knuckles from an f250 with disc brakes and it wouldn't work). Well that's one thing less that you need. :)

some do need to be changed, in the case of the EB with parts mentioned, they do not. i dont know exactly what year chevy, PM JamesT for the exact info or search on my sas thread, around page 3 there is the info for that.

also, i hear from going with leaf springs, i will rub my tires on the leafs, i have 3.5"bs wheels, so what size wheel spacers would i need? i need wheels spacers anyways(to convert 5x5.5 to 5x4.5)

uhhh.. ummm... what? Never heard of this happening, so check with the guys who have done leaf sprung SAS threads first.

ok im goin with 38" swampers, so i think 10" of lift(leaf springs f/r)... umm just kinda worried bout that much lift... will i need a new rear driveshaft? if i dont go hi steer right away, will a 6" drop pitman work without hittin the front leaf springs? and for gettin it that high, should i just get 4" lifted leaf springs, and soa the front and rear?

stock waggy leaf will give you close to that, you can add blocks or leafs to frontmatch 4" lifted leaf SOA rear. IMO 38's are a strain on the d44, but with cromo's you should be ok. You could use a dropped pitman but with that much lift steering would be terrible and bind alot, just go hysteer from the start. You will also, most likley, need new driveshaft in rear, definatly in front.

You'll definitely need the rear lengthened. The front should be alright. I pushed my front axle forward about 1.5" and it's got 8" of lift and it's still stock length and everything. I didn't even have to pull on the slip yoke for it to reach. Should be alright on yours, as long as you don't push the D44 too far forward. The reason the stock driveshaft fits with the d44 is that the d44 has a longer pinion than the little d35. :)

whats the most i can lift it with out needing to extend the driveshaft, what gears 4.88 or 5.13?

As for question number one, The rear is around 6 inches, the front... it depends on axle location and type. As for gears, totally depends on driving style, time spent offroad-onroad, size tires running, engine, and finally personal prefrence.

what year chevy and what parts are needed to complete that disc brake converison?

and how much does it cost to extend a driveshaft?

search for the diskbrake stuff, its everywhere. It depends if you get a new bronco graveyard kit for 500~ or junkyard it for 200~. driveshafts are usually around 120. Please, search first most of your questions asked so far have been answered.
