94 ford explorer xlt.. absolutely adore it. Problems started in the mornings when it was cold outside. It wouldnt go into gear without jerking and taking a second. Finally it stopped going into gear completely. Replace the transmission? thank you in advance!

If you like the vehicle and are happy with it and it's service to you, then its worth fixing. Not everything has a dollar figure.
Do you have any gears at all? Have you checked the basics? Fluid level, leaks, etc? How handy are you at working on stuff yourself?
Check the oil level in the trans and verify its condition. It should be relatively clear and red in color. If its dark and thick, that's not good. Also make sure its not full of metal particles. It shouldn't look like metallic paint.
