I am doing research rightnow (Reading different forums) and trying to pick out the best SUV for my taste. I am considering a 94 K1500 Blazer Z71 rightnow and putting a 10" suspension lift, 3" Body lift, and 38" tires. The Explorer looks to be my 2nd option and will more than likely do the same with it (if possible). My uncle has a brand new Explorer and it's pretty nice, although the motor lacks the power needed to turn huge tires. Very nice forum you guys have here, and am looking forward to talking with you all :)

You can get a 5.0L with 215 stock ponies!

Oh yeah, welcome to the best forum on the net! :D

Welcome to the site!

What model year Explorer are you looking into purchasing? You definitly came to the right site. Be sure to look around for inspiration/information. The X makes for a good sleeper, no one expects it to perform as well as it does. Let us know how we can help and thanks for saying "hey."

Happy postin'!:)

Thank you for the warm welcome guys :) As for year model, Probably 96-98. What year model did the 5.0L come in, and why did it only have 215hp? :( I assume that it would be easily modded to 250+hp..

The 5.0 came in 96+ models. You can do a lot with it. One guys here has 619hp at the rear wheels and runs in the 11's for the 1/4. With the right gearing (and a D44 front axle) you can run 38's easy without much engine work. The V8's tend to be torquey (sp). I'm assuming if you are looking for power and such you will be spending some time in the mud, right?

Yes, will definately be spending some time in the mud :) I see quite a few lifted 4x4 v6's around here that get stuck on nearly all outings..a V8 is a must. I had a 350 in my old truck and won't settle for much less when it comes to power.

I have been reading this site since last night, and it seems the Explorer and Blazer gonna be a tie. I don't plan on doing any type of motor swap, so whatever motor comes with the Explorer will be used, I will have to test drive a 96-98 and see if I like the v8.
