My 1996 AWD has the classic rear end sag and driver's side lean. I was going to replace the rear leaf springs with oem springs, but am wondering if that is the best course of action. My dad bought the truck new and I remember it never really had any rake to it, it always appeared level when empty and sagging with any type of load.

I'm wondering if the rear leaf springs with one inch of lift sold by Carrier Spring Services would be a better choice than oem. Has anyone tried the one inch lift springs, if so, how does your Explorer look and handle.

Thanks for any thoughts.

you could put in an "Add a Leaf" which would bring the rear of the vehicle up by almost half an inch higher and make the ride a little more "firm"

I was wanting to do the same with my 97 AWD Mounty. I do not know about the brand you mentioned. I was looking at the Deaver Springs. They will make a set of springs with a 2" lift for about $650, but you have to use thier extended shackles. Are the Carrier Springs any cheaper. What was the web site you found these at. I would really like to go with a set of springs instead of new shackles and/or an AAL.

Or you can hit a pick n' pull junk yard. Get the leaf springs off a 4 door explorer and install those... just look for the newest EX with low miles.

EDIT - *Forget I said anything, for some reason I thought you were talking about a Sport X* My bad
